What is Hau Dong?

"Hau Dong", also known as "Len Dong", is a spiritual ritual in the Vietnamese Mother Goddess worship of the Three Palaces and Four Palaces, where Thanh Dong (male/female mediums) temporarily possesses the spirit of a deity to perform actions such as blessing, healing, suppressing evil spirits, and communicating with the gods. This is a form of folk performance combining Chau Van singing, music and dance, with the meaning of connecting people with the world of gods, expressing the tradition of patriotism, remembering the source of water when drinking, and has been recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.
